FINGERPRINT LIVESCAN INFORMATION
California law requires all public school employers to secure criminal background clearance for each new employee. It is prohibited for different agencies to share confidential fingerprint results with each other. The information provided by the Department of Justice to each employer regarding your previous criminal history information is confidential. As a result, this information may not be shared between employers AND therefore, each new employer must obtain clearance.
Credential applicants who have not previously been fingerprinted for the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) through a college or university or by means of fingerprint cards sent directly to the CCTC, must submit fingerprints using the Request for LiveScan form ORI: A0281 when applying for their initial credential or permit, or Certificate of Clearance when entering a credentialing program.
SUBSTITUTE TEACHING IN MARIN COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS:
All K-12 public school districts have formed a Substitute Teacher Fingerprint consortium resulting in a single fingerprint (Criminal Background) clearance for SUBSTITUTE teachers registered on the Marin County Substitute Teacher List. This single clearance is the umbrella for public schools in the County. Please refer to the Marin County Office of Education's Substitutes web page for detailed information at http://mcoeweb.marin.k12.ca.us/substitute/default.htm
LIVESCAN (FINGERPRINT) AGENCIES:
The California Attorney General's Office provides an up-to-date listing of agencies (by county) performing LiveScan Criminal Background clearance. The list includes the location, days and hours of service, "rolling fee" costs, payment options, and phone numbers to schedule an appointment (there are a few agencies listed accommodating "walk-in" appointments).
LIVESCAN FEES: In addition to the "rolling" fee (the fee charged by the agency to "roll" your fingerprints)the Department of Justice charges an additional fee (typically $32 to $56) to process your fingerprint information for a first time credential/permit holder and/or an applicant to the Marin County Substitute Teacher list. For example:
A teacher, new to the profession, will typically pay:
$71 ($20 rolling fee (variable) + $32 state clearance +$19 FBI clearance) paid at the time of the LiveScan for Criminal Background clearance, which is automatically reported to the CCTC; retain one copy of NCR form to mail in with your initial application to CCTC
A teacher registering as a Marin County Substitute teacher will typically pay:
$52 ($20 rolling fee (variable) + $32 state clearance) paid at the time of the LiveScan for Criminal Background clearance, which is automatically reported to the Marin County Office of Education
A teacher both NEW to the profession AND registering as a SUBSTITUTE teacher will typically pay $178 (all of the above). Be sure to make two concurrent appointments at the Sheriff's.
FORMS: Applicants are reminded to bring a picture ID (driver's license, passport) and the LiveScan request form from their District Employer to their appointment.
