
Countywide Foster Youth Services Program Grant
The Marin County Office of Education is anticipating receiving a grant of
$--,---.-- for the 2009-2010 school year.
Areas of Need Identified in the Grant Application:
Create and maintain a centralized student information database at the Marin
County Office of Education to include all information 1) required by
legislation and 2) deemed necessary by all partners involved with students.
Create and maintain a current master list of all Marin school district
foster/homeless liaisons, agency and group home contacts.
Support student academic achievement through:
- Ongoing assessment and tracking to ensure meeting state content standards.
- Alignment of curriculum and resources to state content standards.
- Tutoring and extended day as appropriate.
- Transportation as needed.
Complete an assessment of student needs from the perspective of schools,
group homes, agencies and use this information to inform our future work.
Provide transportation as needed to home school, tutoring, extended day
activities, counseling meetings, etc.
Explore more efficient, effective support for students transitioning from
the system into the adult world of work and post-secondary education.
Develop and implement countywide consistency for school district forms,
board policies and protocols for use with foster/homeless youth. Include
agencies and group homes in the process.
Goals of the Foster Youth Services Grant:
Provide training to school and group home personnel regarding federal and
state law, policies and procedures.
Develop a centralized student data information system to be housed at MCOE.
Develop a protocol for notification and coordination between district, group
home and placing agency including a master contact list of all school liaisons
and agency contacts.
Improve student academic achievement.
Reduce discipline problems and rates of pupil truancy and dropout.
