Ages: 12 – 18 years Population: Varies Students of the Marin County Community School are those who have demonstrated the need for a small, highly supportive and closely supervised educational environment by their behavior and/or attendance. The Marin County Community School provides a complete board approved curriculum to meet each student’s abilities and goals. Students become eligible for the program if they are on probation, have been expelled from their school district, or have been referred by the school districts’ School Attendance Review Board for chronic truancy In addition to self-contained classrooms providing individualized, self-paced academic programs, students also may receive a wide variety of support services including mental health counseling, vocational assessment and education, computer literacy, visual arts classes, special education services and an after school recreation program. Most students transition to regular district programs when their truancy/behavioral issues are resolved. Students may earn a high school diploma and graduate from County Community School. Introduction to County Community School Our Mission Statement: The County Community School/Phoenix Academy Programs provide specialized services in a supportive environment in which our students have the opportunity to develop their potential. Welcome to the County Community School Program, part of the Marin County Office of Education Alternative Education Programs. The Superintendent/Governing Board of the Marin County Office of Education established our program in 1982, at the request of our local school districts. Each year approximately 160 students are referred to our program because of problems related to truancy, insubordination or law violation. The primary goal of our program is to help you return to your home school district's program by giving you an opportunity to firmly establish appropriate school behavior. This opportunity includes motivating you to attend school daily on time, improving your skills in academic areas where needed, allowing you to make-up for lost high school credit and helping you to develop a positive self-image and appropriate social skills. We help you meet these goals and objectives in many ways:
